Back in 2019, Commercial Manager Jacqueline Leach was looking for ways to improve morale and culture across the business. A key part of this was finding a reward and recognition solution, as Jacqueline believes
“Employees who have self satisfaction in their field, get recognised for what they do, and rewarded for going above and beyond, don’t leave.”
She adds:
“A lot of companies had some type of employee rewards and recognition program, and we didn't. Working in some of the departments I could see that our employees were working really hard without recognition — especially in the packing room, which is a core team for us.
It was important that the solution allowed senior leaders to show their appreciation for staff, while also enabling peer-to-peer recognition. Perkbox ticks both of those boxes, and very quickly a culture of appreciation began to develop at Delta. Just in the last year almost three quarters of Delta employees have participated in regular recognitions.
Empowerment across the business
Just as significant was the introduction of Perkbox’s Reward points — which can be instantly sent to employees and spent on a reward of their choice. Jacqueline has purchased almost 90,000 Reward points in the past six months and likes how they’ve empowered both managers and staff members.
“Our managers are allocated a quarterly budget and they are then expected to divide that out between their team as they see fit. It’s easier for them to find staff who are deserving.
Previously I had to go and ask staff members what reward they would prefer, and then go out and purchase that. That step has been taken out now, so they can just do it themselves. I also love the idea that I can give out multiple rewards in one go and not have to do it one by one. Staff have said they prefer to choose their own rewards when they want.”
Engage and incentivise
Jacqueline and her team do lots of work to keep the company culture strong, believing it’s an “ongoing task”. The Perkbox offering — and all the additional help we provide — goes hand-in-hand with their own initiatives.
“If you just take your foot off the pedal for a month or so, employee engagement really starts to drop, so I find Perkbox is the way to very easily bring it back up…We use the calendars that the team sends us, which already have pre-filled emails and content suggestions. Then we create calendars around our own activities.
We also love to do the polls. The polls are so much fun and we love seeing people comment. Everyone in the business gets to have a vote and we give them some [Reward] points to reward them for being winners for the month.”
Always-on rewards to show appreciation
Appreciating your workforce isn’t just about rewarding them for good work. It’s also key to have things that are always available to them — just because they’re a part of your company. To this end, the discounts people can get via Perkbox are highly useful.
In the last year alone, 82% of the Delta workforce has taken advantage of this, saving almost $15,000 in the process. Jacqueline says:
“For them to know that they can save while inflation is so high [and] groceries are so expensive at the moment. And that the perk can be shared with their family and friends … I think it brings an element of appreciation that they love working for Delta, that Delta truly is an employee-oriented business and that we care about our people.”
Impacting business performance
Having been a Perkbox customer for several years now, Jacqueline has seen first-hand the evolution of our platform and the impact it has on so many key metrics — such as attraction, retention and employee engagement.:
“We’ve stayed with Perkbox as it’s evolved, mostly because we just see the benefit for our employees. It's a real value-add… We use it in our job advertising, and then the benefits of Perkbox for our existing employees are just so good.
Because of that, we have seen a small increase in retention and definitely engagement. People feel valued and worthwhile, and it also adds an element of fun.”
